Weight reduction of aluminium castings and the optimization of their qualities

Aluminium castings and continuously cast aluminium products constitute almost one-third of Hungarian aluminium industry. Their main field of application is the automotive and machine industry. In the framework of the project, we develop new 3D aluminium castings, aluminium matrix composite and aluminium foam sheet castings whose weight is reduced with different methods, their qualities are optimalized, thus increasing the income of casting production in Hungary.

The solutions planned by the consortium of Aluinvent Zrt. / John von Neumann University / Trimetto Kft. reach this aim by the application of aluminium alloys, aluminium matrix composites and aluminium foams developed and produced on one hand, and by the modification of raw material currently used (alloys and improver particle input) on the other hand. The consortium’s development intends to provide aluminium casting with new solutions, to reduce the weight of castings, increase their vibration damping capacity, keep their specific thermal conduction and exothermal capacity, preserve their specific solidity and increase their specific rigidity.
