Pergola design at National Garden Show (BUGA), Germany
The aluminium foam pergola design project was envisioned by our distribution partner in Germany, Thomas Heumann GmbH who specialises in exclusive gardens and landscape installations. Our aim was to create a light and air permeable pergola structure for screening purposes.
The completed installation was featured as an exhibition piece in the Heilbronn Bundesgartenschau 2019 Garden Show. It has been our key focus to create harmony between the colour of the cobble stone and the shiny metallic effect of the aluminium foam screen, which was achieved by double coated colouring.
Within the material selection process, the Aluinvent two-side-open (LO2) version of aluminium foam panels has proven to be the appropriate application to use to achieve the envisioned effect for the pergola screen structure. Importantly, the benefit of using this application was its partially transparent physical characteristic, which makes it appropriate to use for both shading and the filtering of light. The shiny metallic surface of the aluminium panels was further highlighted by the outdoor lighting conditions, creating a truly unique design aesthetic.
Innovative shading technology
The Aluinvent two-side-open (LO2) version of aluminium foam panels create unique, remarkable aesthetics for shading solutions whilst providing a solution for heat absorption from direct sunlight at the same time. Due to its outstanding attributes of high durability and corrosion resistance, it is not affected by weather conditions. This therefore means that there will be no fading nor discoloration, making it a perfect product to use in the construction of Landscape and Garden design schemes.

Besides providing shelter from the sun, dappled light shining through the panel creates the feeling of sitting beneath a tree. With the bubble foam application a pleasant, natural atmos-phere is achieved without the need for full coverage and a fully shaded area underneath the structure. Aluinvent stands for the following: long life cycle, weatherproof, doesn’t require maintenance or painting, doesn’t fade or change shape.
The shade structure pergolas- depending on specific order instructions- can be ordered in different dimensions, colours, shapes, with side walls or without, tailored for full or partial roof coverage. We recommend using the Aluinvent aluminium foam panels where the goal is to create more privacy with elements such as outdoor installations, screens, and fencing but maintain light and air permeability and ventilation.
